Fit-Testing requirements for workers

AS/NZ 1715 requires fit testing to be performed every year for any worker who uses a tight-fitting respirator whilst performing work. This requirement is enforced by inspectors and non-compliance to the standard may lead to fines, improvement or prohibition notices.

Fit-testing must be performed before a worker wears a tight-fitting respirator for the first time, whenever a new model or respirator is used or if there is a change in the facial structure of the worker. Beyond this, regular testing (annually) is required to ensure continual compliance for workers exposed to airborne contaminants, such as silica, asbestos &asbestos & other hazardous fumes.
