Spirometry Testing

With the increased understanding regarding the impact of airborne contaminants and the impact on the health of workers, standardised respiratory function tests have become a vital part of the health monitoring guidelines. If you have employees, consultants or contractors who are exposed to airborne dust, you may be required to perform spirometry testing. If you would like additional information regarding your requirements to perform spirometry testing, or if you need help understanding who needs to perform these tests, please call our team today on 1300…

How does it work

Spirometry is performed by deeply inhaling and forcefully exhaling into a spirometer. This then provides a reading related to the measurement of lung size (Forced Vital Capacity FVC) & the amount of air that is exhaled within time restrictions (Forced Expiratory Volume FEV1). With both these measurements and a calculation of the FEV1/FVC ratio we are able to determine if the reading indicates normal respiration or a possible restriction or obstruction exists within the lungs.

Where there is an obstructive or restrictive lung disease, symptoms can include shortness of breath, coughing and possible ejection of white or coloured sputum whilst coughing. Where an obstructive or restrictive lung result is produced, it is important that further medical advice is sought.

We can help you navigate this all whilst onsite!

With standardised respiratory function tests becoming more common among legislations and advice from medical boards (such as the Thoracic Society of Australia & New Zealand, Worksafe Australia) getting workers tested offsite can be a costly task and a confusing process to understand the results.

We can help your company by providing spirometry testing (a standardised respiratory function test) onsite with your workers using our calibrated spirometry equipment, technicians who have high-quality spirometry qualifications and our mobile health clinics to ensure your workers are kept safe. Each test is performed to the Thoracic Society of Australia & New Zealand’s guidelines (the most current medical opinion). We also have the facility to review all abnormal results with medical professionals at your requirement to ensure the highest level of care to each individual.

Following the testing, each employee will be given an overview of their results by our consultant. We also supply individual records and a company report to assist in compliance for your company.
