Industrial Hearing Test Requirements
Workers exposed to hazardous noise should have audiometric testing performed prior or within 3 months of starting in their role, then every 2 years following that.
Hazardous noise is defined under WHS regulation and can be summarized as follows:
LAeq,8h of 85 dB(A) means that over an eight-hour shift a worker can’t be exposed to more than 85 decibels. Whether this is exceeded depends on the level of noise involved and how long a worker is exposed to it.
LCpeak of 140 dB(C) means a worker can’t be exposed to a noise level above 140 decibels. Peak noise levels greater than this usually occur with impact or explosive noise such as sledgehammering, or a gun shot. Any exposure above this peak can create almost instant damage to hearing.
We Come to you!
With the requirement to perform audiometric testing every two years, we aim to make the process as easy as possible and reduce downtime for your workers. With our mobile health clinics located Australia wide and trained audiometric technicians, we can come to your site and complete the audiometric testing requirements for you. All audiometric testing is performed to AS/NZS 1269.4: Occupational noise management
